Here's wishing everyone the best in the New Year and hoping everyone had a lovely Holiday Season. Its certainly been nice to have some extra time to work on improving and updating the whole site, both SBO and the Compendium. I've been keeping my helpers busy adding more Sharpe fanfics, new sections on uniforms, battles and weapons and there are more things in the works. Sharpe has been keeping up his log pretty well, with the odd exception of a few missed days due to overindulgence in the fermented and distilled spirits. And to reward us for our hard work The Sharpe Compendium is now officially a member of The Napoleonic Wars Webring!
The Gallery has a few new/old pics from the Amherst event, some odds and ends from the Adrian Sudbury Memorial, out and about in Soho, and there is a complete set of screencaptures from Sharpe's Peril. Expect a set for Sharpe's Challenge to be added within days and Crusoe screencaps are also forthcoming. I'm sure there are some things that I've forgotten, so keep checking it out for new additions as I come across them. Screencapping is a laborious process even though it is a labor of love.
Black Death seems to be moving forward and we've seen the poster for it with a very Sean-like black leather-clad warrior with a big, honking sword. Also, poster art for the Red Riding trilogy that we can look forward to seeing in a few months.
Far North has had a showing in theaters across the United Kingdom, all to generally rave reviews, particularly for Sean's understated portrayal of the mysterious Loki. The film is finally getting the recognition it so richly deserves.
Lets hope that this quiet time of year leads to lots of Sean-voiced adverts and documentaries over the course of this new year as has happened in the past. Seems our favorite fella just can't sit still for a minute.
Be sure to check out the official SBO Calendar for 2009. There are other 2009 calendars available also, but only for Forums members. So, if you want to see them, you have to be/become a Forums member. And don't forget to order those Sharpe Chefs: On Campaign cookbooks. Just the thing to hint about to your other half for Valentine's Day.
Cheers to all and lets hope for a special news bulletin announcing some fabulous new project for Sean soon...Ta for now...Sable

What can I say...Sharpe's Peril is awesome!!! A perfect addition to the Sharpe series! Yes, he's older, a bit worn out, tired of fighting, death and destruction, dealing with pompous morons, thinking a lot about Antonia, still mourning Lucille, but he aways does his duty, above and beyond...and Sean does him justice. Just think, a whole film chock full of lovely Sharpe scenes: riding, running, fighting, swashbuckling, green trousers, washing up...lots of sly references to things from past Sharpes and a lot of the Sharpe and Harper humour missing in Challenge is back. The DVD is out now, too, so go on over to Amazon.co.uk and order yours. If your taste for more Sharpe history is nagging at you, stop by the Sharpe Compendium and see what's new. I think Richard has been writing in his diary, err...log again as well.
The Gallery has quite a few new pics, from Crusoe and Sharpe's Peril publicity and production and more from Adam Paylor's collection from his India trip to work on the filming of Peril. Watch for more of his pics in the next edition of Skirmish magazine.
Bluejay has been busy cutting out and scanning all sorts of magazine and newspaper articles that she got from her local newsagent and some generous friends in the UK. They can be found in the Gallery as well and she's also put up quite a few articles in the Press archives. Visit the Media section for clips from interviews for Crusoe and Sharpe's Peril and both video and audio of the memorial service and his Kalil Gibran poem recitation. There are also a few other odds and ends that we thought you might enjoy. (Huge thanks to Janice and Mike for many of them. Many more of their Sean goodies are available over on the Forums.)
Oh, and when you finish surfing around SBO, go order yourself the perfect Christmas gift: Sharpe Chefs: On Campaign , on sale now. Order yours for immediate shipping. Also, there's a scant few of the first Sharpe Chefs books left, so hurry and get yours while they last as well. You can't miss the links I've put up all over SBO and there's a gorgeous full page of the front cover of the book and the advert poster here.
Gosh, Sean's been a busy boy since the last update. Hope we hear soon what to expect from him next. Till next time...Sable

A happy, sunny, Bean day for everyone...Sable reporting...
Olivia Lightfoot is a JAMMY COW. Yes, of course we mean that with greatest admiration and appreciation. Olivia, otherwise known as stranded_starfish on the Yahoo Flickr photohosting site, was on hand Oct 1 when Sean visited his nephew Daniel's fish and chips shop, The Broomhill Friery. Here's what she said about it:
This is my 1,000th upload to Flickr.
On Wednesday 1st October, actor Sean Bean was promoting the Broomhill Friery takeaway, owned by his nephew Dan Bean. I was there as the photographer for the University of Sheffield's Forge Press newspaper, along with others from Hallam's newspaper, Radio Hallam FM, and BBC Look North.
The biggest problem was the direction in which I was shooting: straight at the strong sunlight pouring through the window, casting Sean Bean in silhouette if I wasn't careful
Olivia's photostream can be found at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stranded_starfish/ where you can order prints of these gorgeous photos of Sean. And THANK YOU, OLIVIA!!!! for being such an intrepid photographer.
There is video of Sean's visit as well as an audio file of a brief interview done for Hallam Radio on the same day over in the Media download archives. From the sounds of it, Sean has become the connoisseur of chip shops throughout the Yorkshire region.
In other news, Sean continues filming on his role as John Dawson, Property Magnate in the Red Riding series of films being shot for television. Filming is going until the end of October, so you Yorkshire folks keep an eye open...you just might catch a glimpse of him in your local chip shop. Word is that the films will have a premiere at the Berlin Film Festival. More on that as the story develops.
For you US Beanophiles, October 17 is getting very close, so get those DVRs ready for the 2 hour premiere of Crusoe. For you UK Beanophiles, Sharpe's Peril has an air date! November 2 and 9. A making of special is to be shown following each of the segments. Also, Adam Paylor from the 95th Rifles reenactment group promises some special features and photos in conjunction from his trip to India to participate in the filming of Peril. And to top it all off, Sharpe Chefs II: On Campaign is to be released simultaneously with the DVD of Sharpe's Peril. See the Sharpe Chefs link at the right of here to pre-order your copy. The Peril DVD can also be pre-ordered at Amazon.co.uk.
I hope you all have gotten curious and clicked on The Sharpe Compendium graphic that is new to the pages of SBO. If not, please take a look. Its still under construction, but there is enough Sharpe goodies there to keep you busy reading for awhile.
I'm off on a weeklong holiday starting Oct 17, but Bluejay will be around to answer any mail...I'll think of you all while I'm carousing in New Orleans...

Summer may not be officially over yet, but it sure feels like it outdoors. Sable here... with a brief update...
Rumours of Bean projects picked up a bit of momentum over the past few weeks. Last Battle Dreamer is looking more and more like a go for this winter as the funding comes together, but nothing official about Sean still being attached to the project. From the Jordan Bayne blog we hear that its full speed ahead on High Moon, the vampire Western, but again, not a whisper of any confirmation. Black Death is still alive and floating about out there in Rumourland also. The Red Riding trilogy of telefilms was confirmed and there were sightings of Sean on location in the Bradford area up in Yorkshire, but nobody seems to have gotten any pictures of him on the set or off and no clues as to how long filming will continue.
Far North DVD release date is fast approaching and I'll be putting up some caps in the Gallery as soon as the release becomes official at one minute past midnight on September 22nd (don't want any conniption fits from the owners of the film). NBC is full speed ahead on the Crusoe 2-hour premiere with more trailers and info available over on the official site: http://www.nbc.com/Crusoe/
We still have Sharpe's Peril to keep us warm over the fast-approaching cold days of Winter. The powers-that-be at ITV seem to be having a spot of fun teasing us with a pic from it every now and then on top of keeping us guessing when it wll actually air. The latest teaser pic to turn up:
We also have Sean doing the voicework on the ITV documentary series Real Prison Breaks coming sometime this winter also.
Its rather hard not to notice the facelift that SBO has gotten these past few weeks. New colours and new banners, a new Wallpaper Gallery, the addition of lots of icons, sig pic banners and artwork in the Fanart Archive and the icing on the cake: The Audio-Video Download Archive page. Navigation should be much easier for everyone now that there are navigation bars on the tops and bottoms of all pages, including the Forums. Coming soon are some 2009 Calendars.
That's about all the Bean news fit to print at the moment, so ya'll come back soon now, ya' hear!

Okay, so Sean's been terribly boring this whole summer, well, almost this whole summer. I'm not going to go into the details as you can find plenty of that if you check out the related threads in the forums. We know he can be a naughty little rogue sometimes, and sometimes more than others. Isn't that one of the things that keeps us coming back here?

Yes, I am a bit late in getting out this month's update, but I was hoping something else really juicy would happen besides Sean being confirmed to play a real estate magnate in one of the telly films of the
Red Riding trilogy planned to film this fall. Catch all the details here:
Filmschool Rejects with more of the casting details here:
The Custard.
Red Riding Channel 4 : Drama trilogy based on novels by David Peace: 1974 directed by Julian Jarrold; 1980 directed by James Marsh, set at the time of the Yorkshire Ripper's murders; and 1983, directed by Anand Tucker. The cast includes Andrew Garfield as rookie crime reporter Eddie Dunford, Rebecca Hall as young widow Paula Garland, Sean Bean as property magnate John Dawson, Paddy Considine as Assistant Chief Constable Peter Hunter, Lesley Sharp as his wife Joan Hunter, David Morrissey as Detective Chief Superintendent Maurice Jobson and Mark Addy as John Piggott.
September 23rd is getting closer, so get those preorders in to Amazon for Far North on DVD. The reviews are excellent and Sean looks amazing:
Sharpe's Peril is officially on the ITV Fall schedule, but no announcement of the air date yet. Crusoe is still a go for Oct 17. Looks like it may be a two hour premiere too, but no official announcement yet.
Be sure to check out Sylvene's icon page in the Media section. There will be more additions to the Media section as I get permission from various people with works posted over in the forums. Creighton received some lovely behind-the-scenes Sharpe's Regiment pics from her favorite fella. So all you members stop by the forums and check them out, or join us if you aren't a member. There are a few odds and ends added to the Gallery, so check with Last Uploads.
Till next time, Beanofiles, keep the faith...Sable out.
