Carice van Houten is the latest cast member to join Chris Smith’s medieval horror film Black Death. Her involvement was first reported by the British newspaper “Daily Mail” last week. Van Houten, seen recently in Valkyrie, is replacing Famke Janssen who had taken over for Lena Headey.

She’ll star with Sean Bean, Eddie Redmayne (The Other Boleyn Girl), John Lynch, Tim McInnerny and Johnny Harris.

Set against the backdrop of the first outbreak of bubonic plague in England, the film tells of a young monk who is sent to investigate rumors of people being brought back to life.

Chris Smith directed Creep, Severance and has Triangle on the way.
